Itinerary Humantay Lake Tour

Day 1. Cusco – Humantay Lake – Cusco

To begin this scenic day the guide will be at your hotel at 4.30am. Set off and drive for 3 hours to Soraypampa, the start of the trail, located in the beautiful valley on the banks of the Apurimac River.

Start your hike on a path called Camino Real, gain altitude as you advance. Passing a small village, the hike continues upward for another hour and a half gaining 366 meters in just 2 miles. After you have reached the last hill, get your first glimpse of the wonderful turquoise Humantay Lake. Enjoy the spectacular surrounding high peaks in the Peruvian Andes.

Trekking, enjoy views of the high Salkantay Mountain, considered to be one of Peru’s sacred mountains, by the traditional Andean people, reaching heights of 6279 meters, towering above covered in snow, all majestic and beautiful. Traditional Andean beliefs and Shamans give blessings at the crystal-clear waters of the amazing Humantay Lake.

On reaching the shore of the lake, relax and take in the beauty of the lake and surrounds. Have a snack and reflect on your time at the lake. Once you have finished trek back to the trailhead. Travel back to Soraypampa where you can enjoy a tasty hot lunch with breathtaking panoramic views of the surrounding mountains. On the return drive, relax and reflect on the day arriving into Cusco and your hotel around 5pm.
