Some important factors for a successful trip to Cusco and the highlands of Peru are Hydration and Rest. It is important to rest on arrival. The body needs time to acclimatize to the different altitude, so you should give it time. You may feel like you are hungover, like you have had a big night out partying, but this is just the effects of the altitude.
Headache, nausea, loss of appetite are all symptoms of high altitude sickness. In most people these symptoms only last a few hours but there are others it can go on for days. The key to a positive experience at altitude is to rest, the first days you should not venture from your hotel. If you do it should only be for short walks or have meals.
Hydration is another key, you will need to drink water. All day and in the evening, water will help to hydrate in the high dry altitudes. Remember to rest, hydrate, eat light meals this is a great recipe for a wonderful experience.
