Itinerary for the Machu Picchu Tour Package 4 Days

Day 1. Cusco City Tour

Our staff will meet you at the airport and transfer you to your hotel in Cusco city. On arrival to the hotel receive a short meeting which will explain the following days program. Take the opportunity to rest and acclimatize to the altitude in your hotel. Later have lunch and in the afternoon partake in a Cusco city tour featuring the Santo Domingo Convent, which is built on the foundations of the Inca Sun temple Qoricancha. Later travel outside of Cusco to the massive Inca ruin of Sacsayhuaman with great views of Cusco city. Travel further down the road to the archaeological sites of Qenqo, Puca Pucara and Tambo Machay. The guide will teach you the histories of these impressive ruins before you will head back to your hotel in Cusco to relax and rest.

Day 2. Cusco, Pisac, Moray, Maras, Ollantaytambo, Aguas Calientes

Pick up will be at 730am from you hotel reception by your guide. Travel to the Sacred Valley stopping along the way at the Mirador of Taray, here you will get the best views of the river and valley below. Once you have admired the views we journey to the town of Pisac and the archeolgical ruin on the top of the hill. One of the many attactions of the ruin is the impressive cemetery that has more than 2000 tombs. See the terracing that clings to the side of the mountain. Spend 2 hours visiting the site, there is plenty to see.

Travel down to the town where you will find a colorful market, the perfect place for all your souvenir shopping, before driving further into the valley to the town of Urubamba where you will stop for lunch. (Not included).

Next stop is the archeological site of Moray or the Greenhouse of the Inca. See different levels of that have been cleverly carved into the ground. Each terrace level have a different temperature, Scientist believe that the Inca used the site to research different crop growth at the different levels. It was also found at the site different soils from all over Peru.

Travel further onto the colonial town of Maras. Close to Maras you will find the Salt Mines. Look down upon thousands of salt pans that have been worked by the same families for generations. These pans have been in use since before Inca Times. A hot spring at the top of the valley discharges a small stream of heavy salted water, which diverts into the pans and evaporates leaving salt. The Maras site is one of the only places in the world where you can find naturally pink salt.

The last stop on our Sacred Valley adventure is Ollantaytambo, with your guide explore the Inca village and the massive Inca Ruins. Tour the terracing and the Sun Temple at the top and learn what happen here with the Spanish during the conquest. Have dinner at Ollantaytambo before taking the train at 704pm train to Aguas Calientes which will arrive at 845pm. Transfer to the hotel and stay the night.

Day 3. Aguas Calientes, Machu Picchu, Cusco

Today is the day, Machu Picchu. To see the best of Machu Picchu you will need to have an early breakfast before catching the bus to Machu Picchu to witness the sunrise. The sunrise is something not to be missed and something that will live in your memory forever. Have a guided tour and learn about the important parts of Machu Picchu citadel. Ask your guide many questions to learn about the history of Machu Picchu.

When you have finished with Machu Picchu, the bus will take you back to Aguas Calientes for lunch (not included). You may have some time for shopping, sightseeing or a visit to the hot springs.

The Expedition train will take you back to Ollantaytambo at 2:55pm or 3:20pm, following the spectacular Urubamba River. Close to Aguas Calientes, the canyon is narrow and the river has many beautiful sections of whitewater. You can also see Wiñay Wayna from the train, if you look up high on the steep canyon wall! Back at Ollantaytambo, your driver will meet you at the exit from the train station to take you back to your hotel in Cusco in our private vehicle. You can expect to arrive at your hotel by 7:00pm.

After your tour, those who have booked in advance for the extra hikes up to Huayna Picchu Mountain, this tour is without a guide.

  • You can upgrade to the Vistadome Train for the same times, 2:55pm or 3:20pm, 4:22pm, or 4:43pm. The cost is $67 USD.
  • Early trains can be organized by request and it has to be done by booking time.

Day 4. Cusco, Rainbow Mountain, Cusco

Super early at 430am from your hotel reception, for our amazing Rainbow Mountain adventure will begin. Drive for 3 hours through the South Valley until the trailhead at Llacto. On our journey see farming Inca terraces, villages and high Andean peaks.

Have breakfast with herds of alpacas and llamas before starting your trek to Rainbow mountain. Follow a lovely stream with great views of Ausangate Mountain and spectacular glaciers. Interact with the local people and learn from your guide about the traditional clothing they use. Your guide will teach you some words in Quechua the local language.

The hike to Rainbow Mountain is 1.5 hours. When you reach the summit admire the beauty and explore the area. Spend around 30 minutes at the top. If you feel energetic hike to the Red Valley, this will add another 45 minutes to your hike but the views are wonderful and worth the effort.

At this point, we hike back down the way we came. The hike takes 1 hour, then we enjoy our lunch prepared by our cook.

We will embark on the 3-hour drive back to Cusco and drop you off at your Cusco hotelarriving around 6:00pm.
